SERVICES

Job Exploration Counseling

Job Exploration Counseling includes discussion or counseling on job options and is intended to foster motivation, consideration of various opportunities, and informed decision-making. Counseling helps students recognize the relevance of a high school and post-school education to their futures, both in college and/or the workplace.

Peer Mentoring

Peer Mentoring pairs individuals with disabilities with more experienced peers who have successfully navigated the challenges of finding and maintaining employment. Benefits of Peer Mentoring include:
  • Supportive Relationships: Peer mentors provide guidance, encouragement, and practical advice, helping mentees build confidence and self-advocacy skills.
  • Real-World Experience: Peer mentors share their own stories and experiences, offering valuable insights into overcoming obstacles in the workplace.
  • Empathy and Understanding: Because mentors have faced similar challenges, they can offer advice that resonates with mentees, fostering a deeper sense of community.

Postsecondary Educational Counseling

Postsecondary Educational Counseling increases the student’s awareness of the wide range of career pathways, the demand for careers in their local labor market and potential growth of jobs in that field. This includes discussion about Comprehensive Transition Programs, Career and Technical Education and other postsecondary training or education programs.

Self-Advocacy Training

Self-Advocacy Training is designed to prepare individuals on how to better communicate their strengths, abilities, interest and needs when interviewing with potential employers or applying to trade schools, colleges or universities. Students who participate in this service learn how to plan, set goals, represent themselves, and make decisions that affect their lives. Throughout the training, students learn skills that increase confidence and self-esteem while helping them develop a sense of independence and self-empowerment.

Work-Based Learning Experiences

Work-Based Learning Experiences (WBLE) are community based work experiences that use the workplace or real work to provide students with disabilities the knowledge and skills that will help them connect their experiences in school to real life work activities and career opportunities.

Work Readiness Training

Work readiness skills is designed to prepare students with a set of skills and behaviors that are necessary for any job. Work readiness skills are sometimes called soft skills, employability skills or job readiness skills. Training may include instruction on interviewing, resume writing, problem solving, and communication.

Career Camps

Career Camps prepare for the transition from high school to postsecondary education, training or employment. VR Providers have the flexibility to create a unique, fun Career Camp experience by delivering any combination of the following Pre-ETS in a bundled format, when school is out for at least three consecutive days (e.g., Spring, Summer and Winter breaks).

On-the-Job Training

Alliance Community and Employment Services, Inc. (ACES) On-the-Job Training (OJT) program provides youth with more than just hands-on work experience—it fosters the mindset of becoming future business owners. Through OJT, youth are encouraged not to view themselves simply as employees, but as emerging professionals who can one day lead and manage their own businesses.

The program offers opportunities to gain real-world experience, receive mentoring directly from business owners, and observe day-to-day business operations. By combining skill-building with exposure to entrepreneurship, ACES equips youth with the knowledge, confidence, and practical experience needed to succeed in the workforce and beyond.
